I met with a Peruvian Shaman just last month. An ever so sweet and humble man named don Mariano Quispe Flores. He gave me a Karpay, which is a form of initiation.

Resting on a massage-table, with a blanket and pillow, I relaxed. Then as he started the ceremony, my body began to buzz. It was as if I could suddenly perceive all the rotations of all the atoms in my body, simultaneously. It was amazing.

As this was going on, I started to perceive something else as well. I felt myself brought before "a panel of elders". I felt the presence of a rather large, yet loving voice inside, a voice that said;

“Well now Maia… You have looked at your past for some time now, trying to make sense of it. You've been using the past to better understand yourself and your life. Used it to understand relationships in present moments and making comparisons.

It is fine what you have done. It has brought you insights. However, at this point, we lovingly tell you; You are Done. There is nothing more to learn. From now on, it is for you to discover who you are beyond your stories.”

First there was a sinking feeling; No More Stories?! What if there is nothing there besides the stories?!

Then came the expansiveness. Of course I am much more than my stories.... Imagine, imagine the freedom... to let them all go.

How about it, ready to imagine yourself without your stories? Not without your past, you can't be without your past... but you can leave it alone.
